Meet Our Team: Yvette Temple

Our current Treasurer, Yvette Temple, has lived in Hyde Park her whole life and raised her two sons there.  She is a banker by day, and an aspiring historical romance author by night, while keeping CVPA’s books balanced between it all.

Yvette is a lifelong avid reader who fell in love with Hudson Valley history at a young age. ”As a young girl I imagined myself a part of these historic homes, and I was lucky to have teachers who inflamed my passions for local history; they created an insatiable curiosity that has followed me throughout my life and they inspired me to learn more about all of the people who came before me.” She feels incredibly blessed to live in this amazing section of New York where remnants of the past can be found just about everywhere.

She was first introduced to the plight of The Point (aka Hoyt House, as the locals call it) when she was a docent with Mills Mansion (now known as Staatsburgh State Historic Site) in her late teens.  Immediately struck by the rundown ruin that stood before her on the trails, the boarded-up windows and overgrown lawn told of a sad and poignant story.  Yvette immediatelyknew she wanted to be a part of saving it someday.  Fast forward a couple of decades to whena moment of kismet presented her with the opportunity to be a part of The Point’s story by volunteering with the Calvert Vaux Preservation Alliance.

Yvette absolutely loves a challenge and being the Treasurer for CVPA has been an amazing experience so far for her: “Along with my banking background, I have treasurer experience from being a part of my boys’ extracurricular activities over the years!  However, the role I have on the Board for CVPA carries so much more weight than anything that has come before: we are fighting against time and the elements to keep the house and property from deteriorating further so future generations can enjoy it as well.”
